How it works
Main Components
WorkWatch consists of two main components:
- WorkWatch Agent: Installed on each monitored workstation, the WorkWatch Agent silently captures usage data and uploads it to the monitoring portal.
- WorkWatch Portal: Accessed through a secure web interface, the WorkWatch Portal provides real-time and historical data on employee computer usage.
Monitoring Portal Hosting Options
WorkWatch offers two hosting options for the monitoring portal:
- On-Premises Hosting: The monitoring portal is hosted on your organization's servers, providing complete privacy and control over monitoring data. Only billing telemetry is sent to our servers. Your sensitive data never leaves your network.
- Cloud Hosting: The monitoring portal is hosted in our secure cloud environment, offering easy access and scalability for monitoring data. All data is one-way encrypted at rest on the monitoring agent, and is sent in encrypted form from each monitored workstation to the monitoring portal. Only the monitoring portal contains the private keys needed to decrypt and access the monitoring data.
Storage Options
WorkWatch offers several storage options for monitoring data:
- On-Premises Storage: All monitoring data is stored on your organization's servers, ensuring complete control and privacy.
- Secure Cloud Storage: Monitoring data is stored in our secure cloud environment, providing easy access and scalability. You have the option of us managing the storage on your behalf, or you may choose to use your own azure storage account, ensuring complete control and privacy.
Security and Access Control
WorkWatch provides several security and access control features:
- Role-Based Access Control: Define roles and permissions for users accessing the monitoring portal.
- Two-Factor Authentication: Enable two-factor authentication for additional security.
- IP Whitelisting: Restrict access to the monitoring portal based on IP address.
Data Retention
WorkWatch offers flexible data retention options:
- Custom Data Retention Policies: Define custom data retention policies based on your organization's needs.
- Automatic Data Purging: Automatically purge monitoring data based on your defined retention policies.
Each monitored workstation generates (on average) approximately 5-6 gigabytes of data per work day. Workstations with multiple and/or high resolution monitors will require additional storage.
Litigation Hold
WorkWatch provides litigation hold capabilities:
- Place a litigation hold on monitoring data to prevent it from being purged.
- Define custom retention policies for monitoring data under litigation hold.
Access Logging
WorkWatch logs all access to the monitoring portal:
- View a detailed log of all user access to the monitoring portal.
- Export access logs for auditing purposes.
Reporting
WorkWatch provides several reporting options:
- Real-Time Monitoring: View real-time data on employee computer usage.
- Historical Data: View historical employee computer usage.
- Custom Reports: We can create custom reports based on your organization's needs.
Bandwidth
WorkWatch requires some bandwidth to operate:
- Monitoring data is compressed and encrypted before being sent to the monitoring portal.
- Monitoring data is sent in small, efficient packets to minimize bandwidth usage.
- Each monitored workstation requires approximately 1-2Mbps of upload bandwidth, on average.
- Workstations with multiple and/or high resolution monitors will require additional upload bandwidth.
